What QuoteWard does, and what it doesn't

QuoteWard introduces homeowners to local businesses. We take your description of a job, find businesses that appear to do that work near you, send them your request on your behalf, and show you what they quote.

We are not a contractor and we don't carry out any work. Any agreement to do the work is between you and the business — we are not a party to it, we don't guarantee it, and we don't take a position in a dispute about it.

We don't vet the work

We check that a business appears to offer the service you asked for and appears to serve your area, and we look at its public reviews. That is all. We do not verify licences, certifications, insurance, or workmanship, and a business appearing on QuoteWard is not a recommendation.

Before letting anyone work on your property, check their licence and insurance yourself. In Québec, most construction work requires a licence from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec, which you can verify free on its website.

Quotes and prices

A quote comes from the business, not from us. Prices, inclusions, timing, and conditions are theirs. We pass them on as given, and we may translate them between English and French.

A business may revise or withdraw a quote, and may not be available at the time you picked. Nothing is confirmed until the business confirms it.

We can't promise you'll receive any quotes. Sometimes nobody is available, and sometimes nobody replies.

Emails we send on your behalf

When you send a request, you're asking us to email businesses on your behalf, and your first name appears in that email. Your contact details do not, until you accept a quote.

Using QuoteWard honestly

Use QuoteWard for real jobs you actually want done. Don't send requests you don't intend to follow through on, don't use it to advertise to businesses, don't upload photos you have no right to, and don't try to break or overload it.

We can close an account or decline to send a request if it's being misused.

For businesses we contact

We contact businesses because they're publicly listed as offering a service near a customer who asked for it. There's no charge for receiving a request or for quoting, and no commission on work won.

Every email includes a link that removes your business from QuoteWard for good. Use it and we'll stop.

Cost

QuoteWard is currently free for both homeowners and businesses. If we introduce a charge, we'll say so clearly in advance and you'll be able to decide before anything applies to you.

Limits on our responsibility

QuoteWard is provided as it is. We don't promise it will always be available or error-free, and we're not responsible for the work a business does, the quality or accuracy of a quote, or anything that happens between you and a business.

To the extent the law allows, our responsibility to you for anything connected with QuoteWard is limited to what you've paid us, which today is nothing. Nothing here limits rights you have under Québec consumer protection law that can't be limited.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the laws of Québec and the laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of the judicial district of Gatineau have jurisdiction.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll say so on this page and update the date at the top. Continuing to use QuoteWard after that means you accept the change.
